Malware Scan runs six detection phases to catch browser hijacking, adware, and unauthorized system changes — no separate app, no extra cost.
Scans Chrome, Edge, Brave, Firefox, and Safari extensions using a weighted danger score: broad host access (+50), webRequest (+30), cookie access (+20). MV3 host_permissions are included. Extensions matching a known-malicious-ID list are flagged as critical regardless of declared permissions.
Checks LaunchAgents and LaunchDaemons across user and system directories against a 28-pattern adware library and suspicious label prefixes such as com.update.*. Also flags launch agents that use unsigned binaries stored in non-standard locations outside /Applications, /usr, or /bin.
Reads installed MDM and configuration profiles via profiles list. Flags proxy hijacking (com.apple.proxies), root CA injection (com.apple.security.root), and forced VPN profiles (com.apple.vpn.managed) as critical or warning findings with a direct link to System Settings → Profiles to remove them.
Parses /etc/hosts for entries that redirect monitored domains (Google, Apple, iCloud, GitHub, PayPal and more) to non-localhost IPs — a common malware persistence technique. Separately checks active DNS resolvers via scutil --dns and flags servers that are not public trusted resolvers or RFC 1918 private ranges.
